Map of the Kingdom of Israel
The Aftermath
I had died in the chariot and was brought all the way back to Samaria where the call was made for everyone to remain in their households that evening. I was buried in Samaria, next to my father and his fathers before him. They then washed the chariot that I died in at a prostitute house and the dogs licked up whatever was left. My beloved son, Ahaziah, succeed me on the throne. Jezebel still lived on until the Jehu Massacre.
The Battle for Ramoth Gilead
The time had come for the Israelites, Judeans, and me to enter battle with the Armeans for Ramoth Gilead. My spies had told me of Ben-Hadad's plan to send his chariot commanders past the first line and right at me. Boy were they in for a surprise when they found out that I was disguised! The long awaited battle had finally begun and I was as relieved as ever when the 32 chariot commanders were no where in sight. It was when I heard a scream when my fears were put to rest. I looked at where the scream came from and saw Jehoshaphat screaming as the 32 chariot commanders came straight at him. The commanders veered off when they heard him scream. they must have figured out that he was not me! Ha! The battle raged when I heard it. THUMP! And the stinging sensation in my back as the arrow pierced my armor, flesh, and maybe even organs! The blood was loss was great and I could see a pool of blood beneath me. I was dying. I screamed at the chariot driver to go back for medical aide. On the way back, I died on the chariot.
Battle Preperations
I had decided to head Micaiah's warning and be precautious during this battle. I made sure everyone was not a spy or would not turn on me in case of emergencies. I then disguised myself as a regular infantry soldier and rode on a chariot. Jehoshaphat did not know of Michaiah's warning and decided to enter the battle with his royal robes. I knew that he would be the first to go because they would be coming for me because I am the king of Israel. We were ready for battle.
The Warning
I had gotten over Naboth when Jehoshaphat king of Judah came to me with a question. "Why have you not taken Ramoth Gilead back from the Arameans that took it so long ago?" I replied with another question, "Will you go to battle with me?" Jehoshaphat agreed and we made a force so powerful that not even the almighty Assyrians could defeat! The next day, the prophet Michaiah caught my attention and told me the my fight at Ramoth Gilead would be victorious against the Arameans. I said to him that it would not be wise to fight. He then tells me that I will die in this battle. I then yell out that he never prophesies anything good or happy about me. I sent to prison for making me discouraged and unhappy. The last thing he exclaimed to me was, "If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me. Mark my words, all you people!"
I Got the Vineyard...
If I had known. Jezebel was so mean to do it. Oh, I fell terrible about what happened. Well, at least I got his vineyard. It was sad tale, but i will try to recollect it as best i can. Ok, here goes. I was informed that Naboth was going to join Jezebel, my officials, and me for dinner. I was ecstatic. I tried to get Naboth to sit next to me, but two men were already sitting next to him. Dinner was halfway done when the two men sitting next to Naboth suddenly stood up and accused Naboth of cursing Yahweh and me! I didn't believe it. They took Naboth out and stoned him to death. While I was mourning, Jezebel approached me and told me how deceitfully she planned all this out. And now I was given the vineyard at the price of some poor innocent man that had done no wrong. I felt sick.
Me and My Best Friend Naboth!
The other day, I found an injured man on the side of the road who claimed he was an injured soldier of battle. He told of how he was entrusted with a captive and how the captive escaped while the injured man was busy. His punishment was to pay silver or die, but he was only injured badly. I told him that he already knew his punishment, so he should go pay it. The man then stood up and told me that instead killing him like I am supposed to, I let him go. Therefore, he told me that my life would pay for his. Such a strange man... Wait a second, he was prophet... So that means... Aww, crud!
Jezebel told me that I should not let a prophet of some false god named Yahweh scare me, she would have him executed next time he would dare to show his face anywhere near me. She told me to think of something else to get my mind off it. I did just that. I was standing in my room, when suddenly, I saw the most beautiful vineyard out side my window. I must have it is what I was thinking as I rushed down the owner. That is when I saw a weird man working in the vineyard. I stormed him with questions, like, "Who are you?"; "Do you own this vineyard?"; "Do you want to be friends?" He replied with, "Naboth."; "Yes."; "No." I knew right off the bat we would be close, so I asked a little while later if I could have his vineyard to grow my vegetables. He replied pretty harshly with a no. I got upset and came to Jezebel for help. She comforted me by saying that she will get me the vineyard, whether Naboth will give it up or not.
A Treaty With Aram
Before my defend of Samaria, I was confronted by a prophet. Boy did I think I was gonna get the boot! But instead, he brought me joyous news! My army would dominate Ben-Hadad and the army of Aram. Yes! The battle began and we defended Samaria. The main army struck down many Arameans and then the Arameans retreated. We advanced and then overpowered the Arameans' chariots and horses. Victory was just around the corner! The Arameans finally ran back to their plains and the battle was over.
All was pretty quiet until next Spring. Ben-Hadad gathered his forces and attacked Israel once again. This time, he hit the city of Aphek and we responded with our best troops. Once again, another prophet came to me and declared that Yahweh would deliver the Arameans into Israel's hands. Yahweh was right again! Weird... Ben-Hadad thought he had the upper hand until we had killed over 1000 of their men.
I was sitting in my commander's tent, when one of my messengers came in and exclaimed that Ben-Hadad wished to make peace with the Israelites. I came out and there was Ben-Hadad and his officials. We sat and got right to it. Ben-Hadad offered the services of the Armean army and they would not attack us if we did the same. I agreed and that ended our battles with Aram.
Jezebel Scares Me Sometimes...
Oh no, oh no! Elijah must have cheated! No, he is a prophet. Maybe Baal is not the true God of Israel. Maybe Yahweh is God. Then again, he did kill all 850 prophets of Baal. I just do not know! I will have to get back to this and consult Jezebel.
Somethings not right about this. I told my wife, Jezebel that Elijah said Baal was not real, so Jezebel had the army of Samaria storm Jezreel looking for Elijah. The thing is, he was not there! We looked all the way towards Kadesh Barnea. The Judeans said they saw him stay for a night and then he left south for the wastelands of the desert early in the morning. He must have gotten wind of Jezebel's plan to kill him. Oh well, that is the last we will ever see of him. The weirdest part is, after Yahweh brought down fire from heaven at Mount Carmel, the drought in Israel ended and we were abundant with rain. Weird, huh?
Enough of Elijah. Ben-Hadad of Aram has planed to attacked Samaria and he has taunted me with letter saying that he will have all of Samaria's gold and women. Grrr. That Ben-Hadad makes me really agitated, but he could prove to be a useful ally if I could get him to join sides with Israel and Phoenicia. I should dwell on this no longer. Off to defend!
Who's Elijah?
I just learned from my army that there is a prophet named Elijah going around performing miracles at everyone's expense. To make things worse, my good and trusted friend, the prophet Obadiah, has just told me that Elijah said that he is here. What does all this mean? Is Yahweh trying to get me to turn away from Baal and back to him? No, he is probably jealous that I have let another god compete for Israel's God.
I have met with Elijah! He told me that I have caused trouble for Israel. What nerve! I have done nothing but follow my father and do great things for Israel. He has challenged my prophets of Baal and Asherah to a contest at Mount Carmel. I of course know who will win. Baal.
My Beginning of Rule
Today, my father, Omri, put me at the position of king of the Israel. He passed away moments ago and now I am able to do whatever I want as king. I did not know what to do, so I read the annals of the kings of Israel and saw the recordings of the first king of Israel, Jeroboam son of Nebat. I said to myself, what the heck, he must have been a good king of Israel, might as well do what he did!
Well, it's been a couple days, and I don't think that Jeroboam's method is working. I decided to take matters into my own hands! Today, I am marrying Jezebel, the daughter of Ethbaal, king of Phoenicia. The king said if I married his daughter and brought her gods into my country, we might just strike a peace treaty!
Ethbaal was right! Baal is a better god! I have set up idols, temples, and Asherah poles for Baal. It's been a while since I first put in an entry, and i have been kind of scared. Every-time there is a thunder storm, a bolt lighting just misses me. Strange...
